Batik Museum

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Competition, Jakarta

Batik has been recently acknowledged by UNESCO as one intangible heritage from Indonesia. In order to preserve the culture and knowledge about Batik, “Taman Mini Indonesia Indah” plans to build the “Batik Museum” inside its area. Learning the importance of the culture, the design is developed and inspired from the “batik” process itself and the value of “Batik” in Indonesian society.

On the ground floor, the design provides a public space, to socialize while learning the process of making Batik. Remembering that Batik has embedded in Indonesian social communities, the museum will be expected to attract people to also involve with the batik activities inside museum. By targeting this museum as living museum and inclusive museum, this museum will be active and also could revive the other museum around batik museum.
